What the CLE program is

Erin International locates missing heirs and verifies kinship for trust and estate attorneys, fiduciaries and administrators. The CLE series is our contribution to that community: substantive programs on questions that arise in practice, taught by practitioners who work in the area, and properly accredited.

Erin convenes the series and covers the cost of accreditation. The faculty named below teach the programs and address the substance of each subject.

Both programs are open to trust and estate attorneys, and to the fiduciaries, administrators and other estate professionals who work alongside them. Attendance is free of charge in both cases, and CLE credit applies to attorneys.

The fall 2026 programs

"Marriage and the Estate Plan"

Prenuptial agreements, marital property and the elective share under New York law

Wednesday, September 9, 2026 · 1:00 PM ET · 60 minutes on Zoom

Jonathan Byer, Partner, Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP

Mr. Byer will examine the intersection of matrimonial law and estate planning under New York law. The program covers the statutory requirements for a valid prenuptial agreement and the circumstances in which agreements are set aside, the classification of marital and separate property both on divorce and on death, and the elective share. It also addresses the treatment of revocable, irrevocable, self-settled and third-party trusts in matrimonial and estate contexts, and the integration of prenuptial agreements into planning documents for first and subsequent marriages. The hour closes with a live question period.

"Nonresident Alien Estate and Gift Issues: Surprising Exposures and Opportunities"

Situs rules, cross-border assets and Section 2801

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 · 1:00 PM ET · 60 minutes on Zoom

Joshua Brandman, Director; Elizabeth Plawner, Partner; Clarissa Cole, Partner, Andersen

The Andersen panel will address how United States estate and gift tax rules apply to nonresident aliens and to clients whose lives and assets cross borders. The program covers domicile and residency and how each is determined for these purposes, the situs rules governing lifetime gifts and transfers at death, foreign asset ownership and the treatment of trust and joint ownership structures, Section 2801 and the covered expatriate regime, and the valuation and documentation of assets held outside the United States. The hour closes with a live question period.

A third program will be announced later in the year.

How the New York CLE credit works

Each program is approved for 1.0 New York CLE credit. Credit requires live attendance, which is verified during the session, and a certificate is issued afterward.

Attorneys admitted in other jurisdictions are welcome to attend. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, and practitioners should confirm the position with their own CLE board.

Every session is recorded, and all registrants receive the recording whether or not they attend live. Credit is available for live attendance only.

Two live one-hour programs this fall, taught by practitioners, each carrying 1.0 New York CLE credit at no charge.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a fee to attend?

There is no fee for the program, for the CLE credit, or for the recording. Erin International hosts and funds the series as a contribution to the trust and estate community.

How much CLE credit does each program carry?

Each program is approved for 1.0 New York CLE credit. Credit requires live attendance, verified during the session.

Is the credit transitional or non-transitional?

PLACEHOLDER, to be confirmed. New York distinguishes transitional credit, which newly admitted attorneys may apply to their first two years of admission, from non-transitional credit for experienced attorneys. This answer will state which applies once accreditation is confirmed.

Which New York CLE credit category does each program fall under?

PLACEHOLDER, to be confirmed. New York awards credit in defined categories, including Areas of Professional Practice, Skills, and Ethics and Professionalism. This answer will name the category for each program once accreditation is confirmed.

Who is the accredited provider of record?

PLACEHOLDER, to be confirmed. This answer will name the New York accredited CLE provider of record for the series, and Erin International's role alongside it.

Can attorneys admitted outside New York attend?

Yes. Attorneys admitted elsewhere are welcome. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, and practitioners should confirm the position with their own CLE board.

Are the sessions recorded?

Yes. All registrants receive the recording. CLE credit is available for live attendance only.

What happens if I register and cannot attend the live session?

Every registrant receives the recording after the program, whether or not they attended, and remains registered for notice of the following program. CLE credit, however, requires live attendance, so a registrant who watches only the recording does not earn the credit.

Do I need to be an attorney to attend?

No. Fiduciaries, administrators and other estate professionals are welcome. The CLE credit applies to attorneys.

When is the certificate issued?

After the program, once live attendance has been verified.

How do I register, and how many programs are there?

Registration is on Zoom, one page per program, and takes a name, an email address and the state or states of admission. Two programs are scheduled this fall, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 and Wednesday, October 21, 2026. A third will be announced later in the year.
